Preparation and properties of hydrochloric acid Principle Hydrochloric acid, which belongs to the group of strong acides, can be obtained from common salt. During this process hydrogen chloride gases are released. The presence of hydrogen chloride (in a solution) can be indicated with the aid of silver nitrate.
