Technical data Extraction tube, type Soxhlet, GL 25/12Article no: MAU-27226000 Function and Applications Functioning principle: The samplefor extraction is placed in an extraction thimble made of compressed filterpaper, the thimble is slipped into theSoxhlet attachment and the attachment isfitted onto a flask containing an appropriate solvent. A reflux condenser isfitted to the top of the attachment andthe solvent is heated so that it evaporates. Solvent vapour ascends up the vapour by-pass tube into the reflux condenser, where it condenses and dropsback down into the extraction thimble. Here it dissolves out soluble matterfrom the sample and collects in andaround the thimble until the solvent level here reaches the highest point ofthe siphon tube. The whole of this solvent is then automatically siphoned backinto the flask and the procedure repeatsitself. In this way, countless extraction steps can be carried out simply andsuccessively, whereby the componentsextracted from the sample are concentrated in the flask.
