Observation of the magnetic field

Article no: P6102600

Principle

The students use a compass to examine the magnetic field of a bar magnet, observe that the needle does not always align itself directly with the poles of the magnet and, instead, it shows a different orientation when it is close to the magnet. They also observe the movement of the compass needle and realise that field lines are in fact closed loops around the magnet between the north pole and south pole.

Benefits

  • Experiment guides are very easy to understand, especially for younger students
  • Associated competences are directly linked to the experiments
  • Curriculum compatible
  • Fit for the future: implementation of tablets possible
