Reunification of spectral colours

Article no: P1066200

Principle

In this experiment, the students investigate the possibility of reuniting coloured light to white light. In addition to strengthening their knowledge of the dispersion of light by a prism, the foundation for the understanding of additive and subtractive colour mixing is laid down, without which many of the technical-optical phenomena known to them cannot be explained (colour television, colour prints, colour slides, colour printing, amongst others).
The latter primarily aids in the investigation of secondary colours by the fading out of parts of the coloured light before reuniting it. It should not to go unnoticed that, in this experiment, evidence for the validty of Isaac Newton's concept for the composition of white light from many colours can be supplied.

Benefits

  • Multifunctional light box - All-in-one: Can be used for geometric optics on the table, colour mixing and on an optical bench
  • Extension with others sets at anytime, no additional light sources needed, recognition value for students

Tasks

Can coloured light be reunited? Investigate the possibility of reuniting white light which has been split by a prism.
