Principle
Aldehydes (and ketones) can be polymerized using a base-catalyst. Since in this reaction monomers are bonded to each other (under hydrogen relocation), this type of reaction is called polyaddition. A reaction of acetaldehyde by base catalysis is produced. The aldol reaction conducted here is technically not used.

What you can learn about

  •  Principle reaction scheme of a polyaddition reaction

Benefits

  • Easy teaching and efficient learning by using interactive experimentation PHYWE-Software
  • Experiment is part of a complete solution set with experiments for the topic Chemistry of Polymers matched with international curriculum: all topics are covered
