Principle
In this experiment, the pupils are to identify the different degrees of expansion of water and spirit when the screw-top glass is heated by taking their own measurements. From this, they are to consider which liquid would be more suitable for use in a thermometer. To do this, in this experiment, students observe the behavior of the columns of liquid in two capillary tubes as they are heated. One of the glasses is filled mostly with water, the other mostly with alcohol.
