Principle

Plants contain many water-soluble minerals such as sodium chloride and sodium carbonate. In this experiment students extract and evaporate water-soluble minerals from plants. This obtained mineral salts are investigated with the flame test to determine the different minerals.

Learning objectives

  • Minerals in plants
  • Flame spectroscopy to determine different metal ions

Benefits

  • Easy teaching and efficient learning by using interactive experimentation PHYWE-Software
  • Experiment is part of a complete solution set with experiments for all Inorganic Chemistry matched with international curriculum: all topics are covered
