Principle

The thermogenerator consists of a block with many thermocouples. These are electrically connected in series and thermally in parallel, so that their thermoelectric voltages add up. By means of water baths, the two sides of the thermogenerator can be brought to different temperatures. Thermal energy is converted into electrical energy. This is used to operate a small motor.

Benefits

  • Part of a system solution - easily expandable for further experiments
  • Simple teaching by using the demo board physics
  • Clear test execution by using ADM3 multimeters

Learning objectives

  • The students learn about the functionality of thermocouples.
  • The students observe the conversion of thermal energy via electrical energy into kinetic energy.
